Nick ran the towel over the back of his neck, taking an opportunity to look at the time on the clock. There was still plenty of time left before they needed to head out. That annoying little prick was still in there, and wouldn’t you know his evening had been the talk of the school today. Nick waited until a few more people left the locker room so it wasn’t as crowded. The last thing he needed was for more people to know that something may or may not be going on with this kid and Bobbie. In the end, it just made him feel like an idiot. He was supposed to have it all together, have a hot girlfriend, be popular. This kid could potentially disturb that balance he had worked so hard to make. “ My girl stayed at your place last night” he said. Fuck introductions. They didn’t need to pretend that they didn’t know who each other were. “ I’ve got a problem with that,” he added as he crossed his arms while looking over at the blonde screw up in front of him. If this kid was seriously taking some of Bobbie’s attention, he had to question her sanity.

Derek regretted the fact that he had gym class with Bobbie’s boyfriend. It was bad enough the guy had been staring daggers at him all day and now he had to be in a locker room with the guy. Who, based on first impressions so far, was kind of an ass hole. He would have been an alright guy if Derek didn’t get the feeling that he was just dating Bobbie because she was Bobbie Bryan. And now unfortunately, there wasn’t many people in the locker room anymore, so naturally Nick approached him. Derek turned to look at him with a face that said he really didn’t care, “Yeah.” Yeah she did. Derek wasn’t going to send her home high. Derek grabbed his sweatshirt and pulled it on over his head, hearing Nick say that he had a problem with that. “Well, that sucks.” Derek shut his locker, looking Nick in the eye, “Look, I understand your concern, but there’s nothing going on. It was late, she didn’t want to drive home.” What else was there to say? It wasn’t a lie, she hadn’t wanted to drive home under the circumstances… the circumstances he fibbed a bit on, but whatever.

Nick gave a slight smirk , “ Yeah, see the problem with that is that uh.. Bobbie has a very strict routine at the end of the night. Some bullshit about her vocal cords, and… something. She never stays at peoples homes. And the fact that she left and you just happened to sit your happy ass in her passenger seat yesterday, just doesn’t sit very well with me,” he said, while looking down to get a feel for this guys size. He could probably hold his own in a fight. Plus, it always sucked when you didn’t actually know someone. Even the smallest guy could be a fighter if he was angry inside enough. “ I don’t like the way you check her out. You’re gonna have to go ahead and quit that….relationship.. before it starts,” he said. “I have a reputation to keep. And… if you give a single shit about her, then I think it’s safe to say, you’ll do what’s best for her” he said, before quickly adding, “ After all, she has a reputation to keep as well.”

Derek got the feeling this guy was sizing him up. What was he gonna do fight him? Over what, Bobbie? Jesus, if he was that insecure about his relationship maybe he should be talking to Bobbie right now, not Derek. Derek looked away, this was ridiculous. First of all, Derek wanted to know of one guy in this school who had never checked out Bobbie, and two, he wanted to know what Nick thought this conversation was going to accomplish. Sure, tell Derek to stay away. That didn’t mean Bobbie would, and it was Derek’s understanding that Bobbie did what she wanted. “There’s no relationship to end. But duly noted.” Derek frowned at him, “If I give a shit? If you give a shit about her, you’d stop trying to control her like some trophy on your arm, just a thought.” Derek crossed his arms, “Why don’t you let Bobbie worry about her own reputation.” And anyways, like Derek was thinking earlier, Bobbie had a free mind to do whatever the hell it was Bobbie wanted. Bobbie didn’t take shit from anyone, and she shouldn’t take it from this dude, no matter how she liked him. He guessed if you liked someone enough, it’d make you do anything out of character.

“ Trying to control her like a trophy? She is a trophy. That’s the point. Why bother having a girlfriend in high school if you can’t have the best one? The only thing to do after that is just be single. Obviously I’m going to be protective of things that are mine,” he said, reaching up to scratch his thumb against his eyebrow. “ Bobbie worries about her own reputation more than anyone else should. Look.. you know what. Honestly.. I’m just trying to save your ass here. Bobbie only talks to people that can do something for her. She’ll use you up and then ditch you when she realizes that there isn’t a damn thing in the world you can offer her. “ he said, giving a slight shrug. Besides, being friends with this guy didn’t make sense. He didn’t have any obvious passions, or maybe Nick just didn’t give a shit enough to try and look for them. But Bobbie, as annoying as it was, was a really driven person. “ Quit talking about her like you know what’s best for her. You don’t even know her”

Okay, if any guy ever referred to his sister as a trophy to be controlled, that guy would be digging his own grave before being put in it. Who raised this guy, barbarians? Not cool. Nick acted like she was just this possession, to be thrown away when he was done with it. Derek kept his arms crossed, shaking his head while Nick told him Bobbie would be done with him as soon as she got what she needed. That may be the case but wasn’t that what Nick was doing? “Oh wow, that sounds really damn familiar, doesn’t it?” Derek was really done with this conversation. Bobbie couldn’t be controlled, this conversation was moot. And besides, Nick didn’t know anything about Derek. Derek really didn’t care what Nick had to say because so far, his first impression just told him Nick was a jerk who probably didn’t deserve Bobbie anyways. Which was a shame because Bobbie was pretty cool. And if it wasn’t for Nick, Derek might have a better chance at finding out just how cool she was. “No, I guess I don’t. You sound like you know her pretty well, so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.” Derek brushed past him, ready to just get out of this locker room.
